Spotlight discussion with Bobby McFerrin immediately following the performance, Spaulding Auditorium

Bobby McFerrin is no ordinary singer. With ten Grammy Awards, a four-octave range and unmatched repertoire of vocal techniques, McFerrin is an explorer. Whether solo or in collaboration with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea or the Vienna Philharmonic, his extraordinary, celebratory a cappella songs “weave a rich tapestry of many threads: jazz sonorities, blues and liturgical harmonies and hints of African chanting” (Top Magazine). From his '80s pop hit “Don't Worry, Be Happy” to spontaneously improvised vocals, McFerrin is a rare and tireless innovator who has singlehandedly extended the range of the human voice. “The result is…soaring, spiritual performances that are exotic and hypnotic” (Associated Press)—and full of surprises.
