When the lights dim and the Kronos Quartet positions its bows for the first notes, the audience takes a breath of anticipation: every concert of this groundbreaking ensemble is an exhilarating journey. With more than 40 recordings (including an '03 Grammy) and countless collaborations with world composers and artists, Kronos is one of the most innovative ensembles of our time. Expect an equally thrilling ride in this concert: The Quartet premieres its third commission from a composer under 30, the American Dan Visconti, chosen from over 300 competitors from 35 countries. They also perform works by Rahul Dev Burman (1939-1994), India's most celebrated and ingenious film-music composer. For hundreds of 'Bollywood' films, he created a whole new sound, incorporating into Indian classical and folk music everything from swing jazz and psychedelic rock to flamenco and circus music. Also on the program is a suite from British composer Clint Mansell's film score for the 2000 movie, Requiem for a Dream, a haunting odyssey of love and addiction.

The Kronos Under 30 Project is a collaboration of the Kronos Quartet and the Hopkins Center, in cooperation with the American Music Center. Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
