Ancient Love, Anoushka Shankar

At 25, Anoushka Shankar is not only the top female sitarist in the world and a disciple of Indian classical music—sharing top billing with her legendary father Ravi Shankar—she's also a potent force for new music. On her fourth album Rise, nominated for an '05 Grammy Award, she audaciously blends exquisitely haunting sitar and vocals with didjeridoo, cello, piano and electronica. The result is a lush, ethereal landscape, “bridging several types of music—from...jazzy ragas to exotic and intense wordless vocals...delicate and lyrical...dense and deep...dizzying in physical range and emotional fervor” (Recordonline.com). Hear the celestial sounds of a diva who's played with George Harrison and Sting, shared the stage with the likes of Elton John and emerged as a supernova in a new global age.
