Department of Music29th Annual Festival of New Musicswith special guest Tuesday, MAY 1 7 pmSpaulding Auditorium Free general admission Click to download PROGRAM NOTES The Festival of New Musics is an annual watershed event in the production and presentation of electro-acoustic music by Dartmouth graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and special guests some in the vanguard of the international new-musics scene. Expect prepared electronic music, electronic improvisation and acoustic works, including music by the centerpiece of this year's concert: the 12-member, Amsterdam-based new-music ensemble, The Barton Workshop. Led by American-born trombonist James Fulkerson known for his works for experimental film and dance, and for his recordings of John Cage and Christian Wolff The Barton Workshop uses unusual performance techniques, live electronics and acoustic instruments including clarinet, violin, piano, percussion, saxes and flutes.
