Department of Music29th Annual Festival of New Musicswith special guest Tuesday, MAY 1 • 7 pmSpaulding Auditorium • Free general admission Click to download PROGRAM NOTES The Festival of New Musics is an annual watershed event in the production and presentation of electro-acoustic music by Dartmouth graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and special guests — some in the vanguard of the international new-musics scene. Expect prepared electronic music, electronic improvisation and acoustic works, including music by the centerpiece of this year's concert: the 12-member, Amsterdam-based new-music ensemble, The Barton Workshop. Led by American-born trombonist James Fulkerson — known for his works for experimental film and dance, and for his recordings of John Cage and Christian Wolff — The Barton Workshop uses “unusual performance techniques,” live electronics and acoustic instruments including clarinet, violin, piano, percussion, saxes and flutes.
