MUSIC DEPARTMENT RESIDENCY Handel and Haydn Society of Boston Chamber EnsembleFriday, MAY 11 8 pmRollins Chapel $24 Click to download PROGRAM NOTES Almost 200 years old, Boston's renowned Handel and Haydn Society holds the unique distinction of having premiered Handel's Messiah in the United States in 1818. Yet it performs like a group of youthful upstarts, infusing music of the past with infectious energy. Noted for historically informed instrumental and choral performances, this first-rate early music ensemble (The Boston Globe) brings an intimate chamber group of strings, oboe and fortepiano to the Hop to delve into Mozart's moving Quartet in F Major for Oboe and Strings and expressive Piano Quartet in E-Flat, K. 493, and a Beethoven piano trio. Hear the works of celebrated composers performed by musicians who make the past come vibrantly to life. |
