Almost 200 years old, Boston's renowned Handel and Haydn Society holds the unique distinction of having premiered Handel's Messiah in the United States in 1818. Yet it performs like a group of youthful upstarts, infusing music of the past with infectious energy. Noted for historically informed instrumental and choral performances, this “first-rate early music ensemble” (The Boston Globe) brings an intimate chamber group of strings, oboe and fortepiano to the Hop to delve into Mozart's moving Quartet in F Major for Oboe and Strings and expressive Piano Quartet in E-Flat, K. 493, and a Beethoven piano trio. Hear the works of celebrated composers performed by musicians who make the past come vibrantly to life.
