It's not very often a genius like Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris comes along. A leading innovator in the confluence of jazz, new music, improvisation and contemporary classical music, Morris has opened new vistas in the musical landscape. Influenced by such jazz artists as Sun Ra and Charles Moffett, he's pioneered the art of Conduction® (conducted interpretation/improvisation), constructing real-time musical arrangements with large ensembles. It's instantaneous creativity, using a vocabulary of gestures that can focus on the smallest of sounds or grow a fantastic bloom of orchestral music. Butch Morris, who's performed over 150 Conductions® in 23 countries and on 22 CDs, brings his extraordinary talent to the Hop in an expanded edition of the Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble, with additional student musicians on strings, double-reeds and flutes. Take this rare opportunity to see the making of a totally unique, multi-layered epic work, composed/conducted by the brilliant Butch Morris.
