What does a pyramid or icosahedron have in common with music? A lot, according to New York-based composer Eric Richards, who's inspired by geometrical patterns of energy in music “both luscious and arcane” (The Village Voice). Now, the accomplished ensemble Aguavá (a medieval Spanish word meaning “look out!”), considered a leading force in contemporary music, premieres a site-specific commission by Richards based on the dynamics of love and loss, encounter and separation—and the spatial qualities of Rollins Chapel. With virtuoso voices and instruments, and non-traditional seating and staging, Aguavá creates an exciting, all-new sense of sonority.

Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
