From a sunny, popular piece by turn-of-the-century Neapolitan composer Stefano Donaudy to more formal Renaissance/Baroque vocal music by Claudio Monteverdi of Cremona, the Glee Club performs 16th- to 20th-century chamber music by such Italian composers as Orlando di Lasso and Gian Carlo Menotti. In duets, trios and quartets—many with no conductor—student soloists and instrumentalists on harpsichord, guitar and strings capture the Italian language of song and love in a spectrum of secular compositions for small ensembles. The Glee Club's fourth annual spring concert of chamber music includes madrigals from The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore by Menotti and Francesco Paulo Tosti's Romanze per canti e pianoforte.
