VIEW THE MET '08/09 SEASON TRAILER The Metropolitan Opera's groundbreaking series: The Met: Live in HD returns to the Hop this year with 10 live broadcasts. With five new productions, including one Met premiere, this beloved program delivers the grandeur and excitement of world-class opera in startling high definition and digital surround sound. Employing ten robotic cameras and state-of-the-art technology, The Met: Live in HD captures the onstage action from striking angles and heightens attention to the narrative elements of both performance and production. Behind-the-scenes features, live interviews with cast and crew, insightful short documentaries and bird's-eye views of the productions offer an unprecedented look at what goes into the staging of an opera. This year, the Hop presents both the live Met opera and its encore performance the next day. (The only exception is LUCIA 2/7 whose encore is on Saturday, 2/14). Ticket prices are the same for both shows and either day can be chosen when buying the Met Pass. BelliniLA SONNAMBULANew Production Mary Zimmerman explores La Sonnambula's dual elements of sleep and wakefulness in an intriguing staging that is set in present day. Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Flórez, back from their sensational run together in La Fille du Régiment, power Bellini's hauntingly lyrical score to dizzying heights. THE AUDITIONSunday, April 19, 2009 3 pm This gripping new documentary is the Met's American Idol. Capturing the final week of national auditions, it provides a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be an opera star. RossiniLA CENERENTOLASaturday, May 9, 2009 12:30 pm Hot on the heels of her triumphant Met debut as Rosina in_ Il Barbiere di Siviglia_, Elīna Garanča portrays another Rossini charmer in this bel canto Cinderella story. Lawrence Brownlee is her Prince Charming, and veteran baritone Alessangro Corbelli demonstrates his impeccable comic timing to match the gravitas of Met favorite John Relyea.
