So goes the Maori legend, one of many dramatized by the evocative indigenous music and dance of New Zealand's Maori Dance Theater, Kahurangi (“a cloak from Heaven"). Whether portraying myths and battles or performing oceanic chants and dances, these artists capture the power and beauty of Maori customs and rekindle the ihi or life force of their ancient culture.
