Feel the rhythm! Focusing on the riveting sounds of Senegalese sabar and West African djembe drumming, this powerful concert jam is a vivacious display of rhythm and song from the contemporary global scene, including music from Senegal and Mali. The performance, the first in a three-part series celebrating drums, chants and the spoken word, features mbalax, high-energy dance music developed in Senegal in the '70s fusing Latin jazz, soul and rock with sabar drumming, and dansa, a traditional dance rhythm from the Bambara people of Mali. This exhilarating show draws together Africa and America in a universal celebration of rhythm.
