San Jose Taiko mesmerizes audiences and critics alike with the powerful, spellbinding and propulsive sounds of taiko, the Japanese drum. Inspired by traditional Japanese drumming, SJT was founded in 1973 by young sansei (third-generation Japanese-Americans) seeking to express the spiritual essence and heartbeat of Japan. Through intense physical endurance, discipline to the voice of the taiko—as well as “entrancing music and dance” (San Jose Mercury News) influenced by rhythms from Bali to Brazil—the ensemble of energetic men and women has become world-famous, touring nationally and internationally with more than 100,000 audience members each year. Catch a performance that's perfect for all ages: thundering, passionate and joyous!
