BLUE NOTE RECORDS 70TH ANNIVERSARY-ON TOURBill Charlap, Peter Bernstein, Thursday, April 2 7 pm
Download PROGRAM NOTES For 70 years, Blue Note Records has been celebrated as America's premier jazz label. Spearheading the jazz movement, from the early days of swing and bebop to soul, fusion and avant-garde, Blue Note not only recorded all the major jazz artists, but set trends and fostered careers of such legends as Thelonius Monk, Art Blakey, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins. To mark the label's 70th anniversary, an all-star band with some of today's most impressive jazz musicians tours the globe, hitting the Hop with classic jazz tunes. Directed by Blue Note artist and pianist extraordinaire Bill Charlap, who played at the Hop in 2007, the group includes brilliant saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, guitar phenom Peter Bernstein, drummer Lewis Nash, trumpet master Nicholas Payton, bassist Peter Washington and saxophonist Steve Wilson. With a rare line-up like this, and jazz from the Blue Note archive, this concert promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime jazz blast honoring the past and forging the future. |
