EIGHTH BLACKBIRD

Friday, May 8 • 8 pm
Spaulding Auditorium
$26 • Dartmouth students $5

Grammy-winning new music ensemble eighth blackbird shows off its renowned technical finesse and theatrical flair in a compelling, diverse program by many of today's most exciting composers. In her luminously beautiful Immutable Dreams, young New Yorker Kati Agocs spins a web of sensuous lyricism that strikingly contrasts with the brilliant textures of Franco Donatoni's colorful Arpege. Stephen Hartke's Pulitzer Prize-nominated masterpiece Meanwhile evokes music from an imaginary Asian court with the help of a battery of invented percussion instruments. Thomas Adés depicts a hilarious musical seduction in Catch, while Les Moutons de Panurge by Frederic Rzewski demonstrates the ensemble's special knack for that maverick master's music. “It would be hard to think of a more congenial pairing of composer and performer” (San Francisco Chronicle).
