HANDEL SOCIETY OF DARTMOUTH COLLEGEHandel SamsonLeshnoff Requiem for the FallenHoiby Last Letter HomeDr. Robert Duff, conductor Saturday, May 16 8 pm The Handel Society of Dartmouth College is the oldest student, faculty, staff and community organization in the U.S. devoted to the performance of the choral-orchestral masterworks. Founded in 1807, the Society sought to advance the works of Baroque masters, adopting the name of the composer Handel, whose grand choruses exemplified their goals. In the last 200 years, The Handel Society has grown in size and scope of programming. Comprising 100 members today, the Society performs at least two concerts a year of major works. With inspired direction from conductor Dr. Robert Duff, an active commissioner of new choral music, the Handel Society has given several world premieres, including Andrea Clearfield's Fire and Ice, a cantata on the poetry of Robert Frost, in celebration of the Handel Society's bicentennial in 2007. The Handel Society went on tour to Europe in 2006. |
