Benjamin Britten's The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard, though composed in 1943, takes its text and intrigue from a 17th-century English folk tale of duplicity, adultery and murder. A Ceremony of Carols, written by Britten during a dangerous WWII sea voyage from the U.S to England, is nonetheless a lovely, almost dance-like homage to the birth of Jesus, with harp accompaniment. The Glee Club also performs Ivor Davies' Prayers from the Ark, which charmingly represents the prayers of a bird, a cat, a mouse, a raven and a dove.
