The Department of Studio Art offers students the chance to work in a variety of areas including architecture, drawing, design, painting, photography, intaglio and lithographic printmaking, and sculpture. The Artist-in-Residence Program brings internationally known artists to the College to work and exhibit.
The Department of Music’s facilities include a rehearsal hall and recital hall, in addition to practice rooms and instrument storage lockers. Classes in music offer topics such as The History of Jazz, Beethoven in Context, and Twentieth Century Music to the entire student body. Individual instruction on all instruments is available for credit to Dartmouth students through the department’s Individual Instruction Program.
The Department of Film & Media Studies, located in Wilson Hall, has Super 8, 16mm, and video filmmaking and editing equipment available for use by students who have taken appropriate prerequisite film production courses. Student videos and films are presented at public showings each term.
Students can gain experience in all aspects of theatrical production, from acting and directing to set design, theater criticism and playwriting. Each term a major production is directed and designed by a faculty member or guest artists. Additionally, every fall, winter and spring terms a series of Shakespeare Alley Showcase productions, created and acted entirely by students, are presented.
