Presenters:

Dartmouth Department of Education Faculty and
Psychological and Brain Sciences Graduate Students
Mary Chris DeBelina Doyle, Dartmouth Dance Program Faculty
Margaret Lawrence, Director of Programming, Hopkins Center for the Arts

This dynamic teacher training is designed to enhance student learning in the theater and to provide meaningful extension and reflection activities for Everett Dance Theatre’s School Matinee Series performance of Brain Storm on January 13, 2012.

  • How can human experiences be communicated through dance?
  • How has one middle school team used the brain as a central focus of learning in science, writing, math and art?
  • What can teachers glean from current brain research to inform classroom instruction?
  • How can movement be used as a vehicle for learning?
  • What will your students experience by attending the Everett Dance Theatre’s Brain Storm?

Educators will learn about an interdisciplinary unit on the brain created by Richmond Middle School’s sixth grade team, will experience how movement and the brain connect through dance, and will participate in roundtable discussions on current brain research as it relates to the adolescent mind with members of the Dartmouth College Education Department and graduate students in Psychological and Brain Sciences.

Each participant will receive a teacher resource packet and certificate of participation applicable toward in-service credit hours. Refreshments will be served.
