HOPKINS CENTER DANCE PROGRAMLocated in the Straus Dance Studio in the Berry Sports Center, the Hopkins Center Dance Program offers modern dance instruction to both novice and experienced dancers. The curriculum includes classes in beginning through advanced levels of modern dance, Pilates and yoga, providing core training in anatomical awareness, strength, alignment and technique. In a focused and supportive atmosphere, students gain a fundamental understanding of dance that allows them to experience a breadth of technical styles. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty and guest choreographers and dancers and are encouraged to develop movement proficiency, individual expression and appreciation of the art form. DARTMOUTH DANCE ENSEMBLEThe Dartmouth Dance Ensemble provides serious dance students an opportunity to further expand their performance skills through daily rehearsals leading to annual concert production, informal showings and regional touring. Students learn a variety of new choreographic works in an intense and structured rehearsal setting and are challenged to realize their technical and dramatic potential. COURSES FOR ACADEMIC CREDITFolded into the HOP Dance Program are 4 courses offered to Dartmouth students for academic credit. Movement Fundamentals 1 (Theater 26fall term), Movement Fundamentals 2 (Theater 27winter term), Dance Composition (Theater 28-sping term) and Performance Studies in Dance (Theater 29fall, winter and spring terms) fulfill a portion of the requirement for a dance minor in Theater.
