DARTMOUTH WIND SYMPHONY

The Dartmouth Wind Symphony presents concerts in Spaulding Auditorium in the Hopkins Center during the Fall, Winter and Spring terms. In addition, the ensemble gives several special event performances on and off campus. Wind Symphony concerts have a wide variety of formats, including theme concerts, chamber works, avant garde and special pieces and even silent film accompaniment. A regular program feature is the winter term exchange concert. The DWS has hosted ensembles from the following schools over the years: Columbia, Brown, Yale, McGill, Duke, Bowdoin, New England and Boston Conservatories, Gordon, Keene State and Rhode Island Colleges and MIT, WPI, UNH and UVM. Of special notice are renowned guest artists David Amram, Ken Radnofsky, Joseph Alessi, Ed Carroll, William Warfield, Peter Schickele and Phil Smith. Dartmouth students and alumni are also featured soloists. To date, the DWS has recorded 13 CDs and has its concerts broadcast regularly on television in the Hanover area.

The Hopkins Center is proud to introduce our newest Conductor: Matthew Marsit
An active conductor and clarinetist, Matthew M. Marsit has lead ensembles and performed as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician throughout the Eastern United States. Before joining the staff of the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth, Matthew has held conducting positions at Cornell University, Drexel University, the Chestnut Hill Orchestra, the Bucks County Youth Ensembles and the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary. Matthew has served as a guest conductor or clinician for a great number of institutions and festivals including the Delaware County Youth Orchestra (Pennsylvania), the Temple University Symphony Orchestra Brass and Percussion, the Howard County Concerto Festival (Maryland), the Western Burlington County Honors String Orchestra (New Jersey), the Altoona Tri-County Honors Orchestra (Pennsylvania), and the Hatboro-Horsham and Harriton High School Symphonic Orchestras.

As a clarinetist, Matthew has played with many ensembles including the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Fairmont Chamber Orchestra, Cornell University's "Ensemble X" and has made solo appearances with the Cornell University Jazz Ensemble, the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary, the Drexel University Symphony Orchestra and the Chestnut Hill Orchestra.

A native of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Matthew moved first to Philadelphia to complete his studies in music at Temple University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2003, where he studied clarinet with Anthony Gigliotti and Ronald Reuben and conducting with Luis Biava and Arthur Chodoroff. In addition to his degree from Temple University, Matthew has continued to advance his study of conducting by working with such well-known instructors as Larry Rachleff and Mark Davis Scatterday.
