DFS Film: The Last Circus

Against the backdrop of the darkest days of Franco’s regime comes a demented tale of two clowns who fight over a beautiful acrobat in this ultraviolent allegory of fascist Spain. With a brazen fusion of influences ranging from Tarantino to Alejandro Jodorowsky, this mesmerizing film is a stylish and hellaciously gorgeous thrill ride. D: Álex de la Iglesia, Spain/France, Spanish with subtitles, 2010, 107 minutes

Programmed as part of the Dartmouth Film Society’s “End of Times” winter series.

Established in 1949, the Dartmouth Film Society (DFS) is one of the country’s oldest student-run film societies.Today, the DFS is a thriving hub of film culture at Dartmouth College and in the Upper Valley.  Every Monday at 6pm, movie fans of all stripes meet to talk about the week’s slate. Midway through the term, future DFS series are proposed and members vote for a winner. The Film Society also periodically honors film luminaries such as Meryl Streep, Werner Herzog, Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Laura Linney and Sidney Lumet. Buy a pass, come to a meeting, propose a series: the DFS welcomes all film lovers.
