Robert Duff conductor
Johannes Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Op. 45
In his “German Requiem,” Brahms turned personal loss—the death of his mother—into a masterpiece. Based not on the traditional Latin mass for the dead but on German Biblical verses Brahms himself chose, the work aims to console the living. Says Duff, “The tonal colors, the orchestration, the urgency, the sensitivity to the text–it’s a remarkable testament to a man and his love for his mother and his love of life.”
