Since bursting onto the international scene on Miles Davis’s album Live-Evil, Hermeto Pascoal has “inspired the jazz world for more than 40 years, and continues to do so” (The Times, UK). Known in Brazil as O Bruxo (The Sorcerer), Pascoal and his tireless sextet of multi-instrumentalists conjure music ranging from folkloric to futuristic, playing on a battery of instruments both standard and whimsical (hub caps, teapots, bowls of rocks). His music “sail[s] over its own intricacies, on the way to elation” (The New York Times).
