Matthew M. Marsit, conductor
Vanich Potavanich, guest conductor/composer
Music from Japan, China and Thailand, with a guest from the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
Hear the distinct and arresting musical traditions of Asia in this program of original wind ensemble music by Japanese, Chinese and Thai composers. Special guest Vanich Potavanich, conductor of the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, joins the DCWE to conduct two of his own works.
Works by Yasuhide Ito, Daisuke Shimizu, Chang Su Koh, Chen Yi and Vanich Potavanich
Marsit leads student and select community musicians through an exciting array of repertoire for the wind ensemble, from the 19th century to today, including many world premieres. The ensemble’s inventive thematic programming is often coupled with educational components and projects to engage young musicians and audiences alike.
Ordinarily, Vanich Potavanich [VAH-nich po-tah-VAH-nich] performs for the king. On Sunday, February 18, he’ll forego that regal audience to guest-conduct a concert by the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble, at 2 pm, in Spaulding Auditorium of the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College.
