Dartmouth Idol Rules
Dartmouth Idol Rules

Dartmouth Idol is a singing competition, sponsored by Dartmouth College’s Hopkins Center for the Arts, in cooperation with the Office of the Provost.

Dartmouth Idol is open to all currently enrolled Dartmouth College undergraduate students. Participants may be asked to provide a valid Dartmouth College Student ID.

Auditions: Auditions for the competition will take place on Saturday, January 21 between 1 and 6 pm. Auditions will only be reviewed by judges and production staff. Only judges, production staff, videographer and auditionees (one at a time) will be allowed into the audition room. Audiences will only be present at the Semi-Finals and Finals.

Registration: You may register online or in person. Due to time constraints, the number of auditions may be limited. Subsequently, we suggest that you register online. Once all of the audition spots are taken, no one will be allowed to register.

Performances: Contestants must have memorized all songs they are performing during all aspects of the competition. Contestants may not utilize live props. While costumes will not be permitted, contestants are encouraged to exhibit freedom of expression in their choice of attire for all rounds. Contestants may not musically accompany themselves. After the initial round of auditions, contestants must identify the song they propose to sing in advance of the next round. The producer reserves the right to reject any proposed song. During the semi-final and final rounds, contestants will not be allowed to sing the same song. If the same song is proposed by more than one contestant, the individual that first proposed the song will be the individual allowed to sing the song. Background singers may be used during the final round only at the discretion of the musical producer.

Please note: If a contestant proposes to sing an original work, by doing so the contestant confirms that he or she has the authority to grant to Dartmouth a nonexclusive license to record and reproduce the work as part of all of the productions associated with this event.

The order in which each contestant performs in each round will be determined by the producers.

Contestants are required to attend all rounds of the competition. The semi-finals, finals and prize ceremony will be open to the public.

DISQUALIFICATIONS
The producer reserves the right to disqualify and/or exclude, in our sole and absolute discretion, any individual from the audition for any reason or for no reason at all, including without limitation, violation of any portion of these rules, or tampering with the entry process or the audition process. The producer also reserves the right to change the rules and procedures at any time. Being chosen to audition and/or compete at any level in the process does NOT ensure that you will be selected to continue to the next stage.

GENERAL CONDITIONS
By participating, contestants agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the producers, the voting audience and the panel of judges, which shall be final and binding. By participating in this contest you consent and agree to the recording and use of your performance, appearance, name, voice, singing voice, likeness for use in connection with any video production or reproduction for all purposes (including display on the internet, advertising, marketing, promotion, merchandising and the exploitation of any and all ancillary and subsidiary rights), as the same may be edited, in all media now known or hereafter created throughout the universe, in perpetuity for no compensation, unless otherwise required by law. Your presence at the audition event will be conclusively deemed to be a waiver of any and all claims for invasion of privacy, defamation, etc. All federal, state and local laws apply.

Please note: This contest is designed to be a showcase for amateur singing talent. If you have signed a contract which limits your right to perform in an event like this, or limits your ability to consent to the use of your name, voice, singing voice or likeness without compensation to a third party, such as an agent or manager, you are not eligible to participate in this contest unless the other party to the contract provides written consent to Dartmouth.
