VOLUNTEER USHER PROGRAMThe Hopkins Center’s Volunteer Usher program is a great way to get involved at the Hop. When you usher an event, you are welcome to bring a guest to usher with you, and stay to watch the rest of the show for free!
Essential to the success of our live performances, Volunteer Ushers greet patrons as they enter the theater, walk them to their seats, provide them with programs, and return to the entrance to repeat the process (sometimes many times!). There is no color-specific dress code; we simply ask that you arrive in what is sometimes called “casual professional” attire. Assignments are determined by a computerized lottery, based on your specific show requests. All usher correspondence is conducted by email.
All volunteer ushers new and returning must attend an orientation/training session in order to usher at the Hop. Registration in advance is required. Orientation occurs once a year (late summer before the Fall Term begins). If you would like to become an usher and stay informed on orientation dates, please send an email to Hopkins.Center.Ushers@dartmouth.edu
- Usher positions are open to anyone over the age of twelve and who has attended an orientation session.
- Most Ushers will be required to remain on their feet for extended periods of time and/or to a small amount of stairs. Volunteers who are physically challenged are welcome to apply.
- Ushers must have vision sufficient to read theatre tickets without difficulty, and to maneuver in a darkened atmosphere.
- Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for as many events as they wish.
