Dartmouth Youth Wind Ensemble

Dartmouth Youth Wind Ensemble

Due to COVID-19 health and safety, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Dartmouth Youth Wind Ensemble program until next year.

Youth Winds this winter will be a series of five Saturday morning rehearsals culminating in two performance opportunities. Saturday rehearsals, from January 8–February 5, will take place at Dartmouth's Hopkins Center for the Arts from 10 am–12 pm. A complete rehearsal schedule can be found below.

Youth Winds is open to students in grades 5–9, as long as they have been studying their instrument for at least one full year. The cost of Youth Winds is $50, but please reach out to dartmouthyouthwinds@gmail.com for financial aid. Payment can be made at the first rehearsal via cash or check made out to "Hopkins Center for the Arts" with "Youth Winds" in the memo line.

More About Youth Winds

For those of you who participated in Youth Winds pre-COVID-19, the program this year will look quite familiar. For those who participated in our lesson program last winter, this year's ensemble will be a chance to make music in-person and deepen relationships with Dartmouth and Hanover High School mentors.

Like past years, we will be working on a number of full-band pieces in Youth Winds this winter. New this year, students will also practice and polish section and chamber works with the help of Dartmouth and Hanover mentors.

The primary concert will also take place on a Saturday morning (February 12) at 11 am. This concert will be at Hanover High School, and is part of a series called "HopStops"! Students will perform their full band pieces, their chamber and sectional works, and will also do some instrument demos and skits. The second performance opportunity will be February 19 at 7:30, where Youth Winds students will have a chance to perform their chamber pieces at the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble Winter Concert at the Hopkins Center.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us at dartmouthyouthwinds@gmail.com with any questions.

The mission of the Dartmouth Youth Wind Ensemble is to build the confidence and musical ability of young Upper Valley musicians. The Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble believes that through mentorship and exposure to challenging and exciting music, Youth Winds can inspire and improve the skills of young musicians. The relationships formed between mentors and mentees often span several years of the Youth Winds Program. We hope that you will consider joining us!
