ENDOWMENT OPPORTUNITIES

With an endowment gift you have the opportunity to help support—on a permanent basis—one of several exciting programs at the Hop. Income from an endowment can be used to fund a Hop program in perpetuity. This means that the Hop will always be able to count on your gift to provide students and the surrounding communities with events of the highest artistic standards. The following represent some of the Hop’s programs.

  • Visiting Performing Artist Series This program brings exceptional artists to our campus and Upper Valley audiences. During the 2009-2010 season, the Trisha Brown and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane dance companies perform at the Hop, along with other exciting artists, like jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves and pianist Emanuel Ax. An example of an endowment created to support the Hopkins Center’s Visiting Performing Artist Series is The Class of 1961 Legacy: The American Tradition in Performance Fund. The Class of 1961 established this fund in celebration of its 40th reunion to bring artists rooted in the American tradition to the Hop. Recent artists funded by this endowment have been Sweet Honey in the Rock and Blue Note Records 70th Anniversary Tour. This fund is sponsoring the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra in January 2010. The initial gift of over a quarter million dollars was raised to over half a million dollars as a result of the Class’s 45th reunion. The Class of ’61 is now reaching for one million dollars for its 50th in 2011. Thank you Class of 1961!
  • Student Ensembles and Performances The Hop is home to the Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble, Dartmouth Dance Theater Ensemble, Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Dartmouth Wind Symphony, Dartmouth College Glee Club, Dartmouth College Gospel Choir, Handel Society of Dartmouth College and World Percussion Ensemble, all of which provide students with extracurricular opportunities to learn, experience and collaborate in the performing arts. Led by professional directors dedicated to the highest artistic quality, the ensembles also provide community members with the opportunity to participate in the diverse musical programs.
  • Hop Outreach & Arts Education This community and education-oriented program focuses on bringing visiting artists to schools in the Upper Valley as well as bringing children to the Hop for live performances. Special programs like the free HopStops and the School Matinee Series are just two examples.
  • Student Workshops (Jewelry, Woodworking, Ceramics) The Hop offers individual artisan instruction to students and faculty in wood, pottery and jewelry in separate workshops.
