On Making Sounds of Hazel (excerpted)

Peer behind the scenes of the dazzling ballet about legendary jazz singer, pianist and activist Hazel Scott. This work was created by the company over the course of their three-year summer residency at Dartmouth. Artistic Director Virginia Johnson and Choreographer Tiffany Rea-Fisher explore how they brought to life the legacy and talents of Scott, and the documentary features footage of their rehearsals and performance filmed here at the Hop last summer.

The ballet premiered in Washington DC last fall and will tour across the US throughout 2023. 

The Medium: Dartmouth Opera Lab

In Spring 2021, students brought the 59-minute opera by the fabled composer Gian Carlo Menotti to Dartmouth. With the pandemic in full swing, the cast and crew worked remotely across many states. The outcome is a seamless, deliciously spooky performance that would make Menotti proud
