Dartmouth Arts Weekend Celebration

Site-specific Adventure with Pilobolus

October 19, 2025

The pioneering company brings an original work that activates our new building.

Pilobolus returns to its roots at Dartmouth—where the company was born in 1971—for a weekend of discovery, creativity and celebration. Through a dynamic mix of performances, workshops and immersive happenings, Pilobolus will animate the Hop's new spaces with signature playfulness and curiosity.

Pilobolus will collaborate with Dartmouth students to bring the company's repertoire to site-specific performances on campus. Dartmouth students are invited to take part in masterclasses, experiencing inspiration and connection through movement, just like the founders did right here over 50+ years ago.

Whether you're moving, watching or wandering, Pilobolus invites you to celebrate the opening of a space where art and community meet.

Pilobolus, a beacon of innovation in the dance world since 1971, pushes the limits of human physicality to reveal the beauty and power of connected bodies. With a fearless and rebellious spirit rooted in its Dartmouth College origins, Pilobolus captivates audiences through a dynamic blend of athleticism, artistry, and imagination. Their ever-evolving repertoire, created in collaboration with dancers and thinkers from diverse disciplines, has touched hearts and minds worldwide, leaving a lasting imprint on popular culture with over 120 pieces performed across 65 countries. Pilobolus's shows engage, inspire, and astonish, leaving viewers with a profound sense of connection and wonder.

Pilobolus's history is rich with accolades and collaborations with some of the world's most influential thinkers and creators. Recognized as one of Dance Heritage Coalition's "Irreplaceable Dance Treasures," Pilobolus continues to be at the forefront of innovation in the performing arts—a journey chronicled in Robert Pranzatelli's 2024 book Pilobolus: A Story of Dance and Life, detailing Pilobolus's rise from a counterculture experiment to a cultural institution.

Pilobolus's outreach programs extend this creative ethos, welcoming everyone—regardless of age, ability, or experience—to explore the joy of movement and the limitless potential of collaboration through masterclasses, workshops, and other interactive and educational experiences.

Pilobolus's mission is to create, perform, and preserve dances, expand and diversify audiences, and teach dancers, non-dancers, and organizations to harness creative potential.
