The legendary concert film of Aretha Franklin's 1972 live gospel album is finally on the big screen.

19/20 Hop Film

In 1972 Aretha Franklin performed a live concert in a Los Angeles Baptist church, and director Sydney Pollack (Out of Africa) filmed the entire glorious performance. The resulting gospel album became a legend but the film's release was stalled by decades of technical and financial issues. Finally, audiences can witness the Queen of Soul at the height of her powers as she brings down the house with rousing renditions of How I Got Over, Marvin Gaye's Wholy Holy, the miraculous title song, and more. D: Sydney Pollack & Alan Elliott, US, 2018

“It’s the closest thing to witnessing a miracle.”

Rolling Stone

“You get both the most lovely gaze a professional camera’s ever laid upon Aretha Franklin and some of the mightiest singing she’s ever laid on you. Don’t bother with tissues. Bring a towel.”
