Bazodee
Set in beautiful Trinidad and Tobago, this Bollywood style Caribbean musical rom-com is about being true to yourself and honest in love at all costs.
AAPI Heritage Month Film Series
Anita Panchouri is the doting daughter of an indebted Indian businessman, willing to marry a wealthy suitor to fix her father's financial troubles. But her resolve wavers when she meets romantic rasta singer Lee, whose gifts of song are on full display as he helps Anita play matchmaker for her sarcastic cousin. But the sparks flying between them don't go unnoticed, and Anita's soon-to-be brother-in-law begins to plan revenge against her for this betrayal of her upright yet affable fiancé. Anita's heart, her father's business and their family's reputation all hang in the balance as she considers which beau to choose. Will love prevail?!?!?
Three different cultural traditions come together in Bazodee: the melodrama of Bollywood, the calypso-infused Indo-Caribbean "Soca" music of Trinidad and Tobago, and the feel-good appeal of an American rom-com. This is the perfect film to bridge the Dartmouth campus celebrations of Caribbean Carnival (end of April) and Asian American & Pacific Islander History Month (May).
