Diving into the ACLU's offices as they go full-tilt at the Trump administration, this rollercoaster ride captures the thrill and defeat in these deeply human battles. As with their previous political doc Weiner (2016), directors Elyse Steinberg, Josh Kriegman and Eli Despres cover the events in real time with remarkable serendipity, dramatic suspense and some dark humor. Although the movie's release coincides with the ACLU's centennial, the filmmakers are less interested in simple boosterism than they are with the inner workings of an organization fighting injustice within a complex system.
