Jordan Peele's debut is still the smartest horror movie around: an edge-of-your-seat thriller with a subversive and often hilarious commentary on race as well.
The truism behind Jordan Peele's Get Out is that being Black in America is like a horror movie and that big issues lurk behind small gestures. Chris, a Black photographer played by Academy Award-winner Daniel Kaluuya, is invited to spend the weekend with the parents of his white girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams). At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries leads him to a far darker truth. Still as relevant as ever, Get Out changed the landscape of Hollywood horror films and launched the careers of Peele and Kaluuya into the pantheon of cinematic greatness.
