This hit doc out of Sundance asks: what would American democracy look like in the hands of teenage girls? Discussion follows
23/24 Hop Film
As a followup to their 2020 hit Boys State, filmmakers Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine traveled to Missouri in 2022 to meet a few of the 500 female high school delegates of the annual mock government program. The film spotlights seven young women; demographically diverse, they are immensely watchable and surprisingly adept at articulating their ideas. Opinionated, but with a mature self-awareness, they have palpable concerns about issues such as climate change, gun violence and a woman's right to choose. Friendship, competition, disappointment and resilience power this engaging and prescient portrait of young people coming of age in this political moment.
Directors Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss will join a hybrid post-film discussion via Zoom.
