I'm Your Man

November 14, 2021

This event occurred as part of the 21/22 Hop Film season. This is an archived view.

A science-fiction story with soul and a romance written for adults. Just like its mechanical hero, this tender film is attractive, smart and cunningly designed to win your heart.

I'M YOUR MAN | Official Trailer | Bleecker Street

Emmy-winning director Maria Schrader's (Unorthodox) tender new movie continues her exploration of loneliness and connection, but with a sci-fi twist. Alma (Maren Eggert) is a scientist coerced into participating in an extraordinary study in order to obtain research funds for her work. For three weeks, she has to live with a humanoid robot tailored to her character and needs, whose A.I. is designed to be the perfect life partner for her. Enter Tom (Dan Stevens, Downton Abbey), a machine in human form in a class of its own, created solely to make her happy. Heartwarming, elegant and often profound in its exploration of loneliness and human connection, Germany's official Oscar entry is exquisitely charming and smart. It asks pertinent questions about loneliness and a world in which algorithms can know us better than our human partners ever will. D: Maria Schrader, Germany, subtitled, 2021
