A rich, exuberant, funny, insightful and poignant guided conversation on what we are called, and the stories our names birth.
24/25 Special EventWhat's in a name? In parts of West Africa it is believed children grow to embody their names; that a child named Peace will grow up to radiate serenity. Other West Africans think this is rubbish. But how do we come to be named? What then do we inherit? Do names change us? Who cares? And why?
Join us for a deep dive into the fascinating world of names as writer Inua Ellams invites a panel of guests to dig deep and explore the story and meaning behind their own names. Audience members are invited to participate; to come with the story and meaning behind their names.
Bring a pen or pencil and notebook to participate in this workshop.

Spoken word artists and comedians breathe life into their narratives, forging a connection with us, the listeners. This season, we feel how the art of the spoken word transcends language, as these theatrical artists stir emotions, provoke thoughts and inspire us to act.
Learn MoreArt connects. It brings us together and reveals the interrelated nature of our world—the connection within communities, across culture, and even underfoot.
