Green Screen
Almost 50 years after Spielberg made cinema history with this summer blockbuster, it still may not feel safe to go back in the water. When a leviathan of a Great White begins making snacks out of the good people of Amity Island, it's up to Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider), grizzled fisherman Quint (Robert Shaw), and marine biologist Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) to embark on one of the greatest fish stories ever told.
The film's depiction of the town's business interests going up against the warnings of scientists has echoes of both the decades-long debate over climate change, and the more recent confrontations related to the pandemic shutdown and public safety. And with John Williams' unforgettable score building suspense throughout, very few films have the ability to instill deep-rooted phobias like Spielberg's 1975 classic.
