Late Night - Official Trailer | Amazon Studios

Emma Thompson plays veteran talk-show host Katherine Newbury: brittle, British and operating on out-of-touch autopilot. Mindy Kaling '01 is Molly Patel, a forced-diversity hire to Katherine's all-male writing crew who tries to save her boss and the failing show.

Focusing on the ever-changing media landscape and the adapt-or-die mentality that comes with it, Late Night has more on its mind than your average comedy. In between jokes, it also shines a light on age and obsolescence, the dumbing down of the culture, the boys' club of comedy writing and the perils of social media. The result is a lively and entertaining workplace satire with its finger on the pulse of today's entertainment industry.

Programmed in collaboration with Professor Joanna Rapf's class on "Women in Comedy."

Mindy Kaling '01 began her career at Dartmouth as a Latin major, but decided to pursue a degree in playwriting instead. She went on to earn an Eleanor Frost Playwriting Award in 1999. She also wrote the popular comic strip "Badly Drawn Girl" for The Dartmouth and the comic theater masterpiece Matt & Ben. Kaling rose to prominence as Kelly Kapoor on NBC's sitcom The Office. She wrote, produced and starred in her own sitcom, The Mindy Project, and has published a best-selling book of essays. Her film Late Night (2019) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim, and she has lent her talents to A Wrinkle in Time, Ocean's Eight, Inside Out, Wreck-It Ralph and The Morning Show. Her current writing projects include streaming series like The Sex Lives of College Girls and Never Have I Ever, and the upcoming feature Legally Blonde 3.
