In retrospect, this 1999 action thriller seems terrifyingly prescient, with its vision of a future where humankind is enslaved by an elaborate digital façade, while a malevolent cyber-intelligence dominates the "real" world. Whoa.
Hacker Neo (Keanu Reeves) takes the red pill and reluctantly joins rebels Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) and Trinity (Carrie Anne Moss) in their struggle against "the Matrix." But learning kung fu and how to dodge bullets might not be enough against the digital henchmen (Hugo Weaving) determined to protect the system—it might require a completely new understanding of what is "real."
