21/22 Hop Film
When thinking of the film that best represents 2020, it's hard not to go with this sweet, surreal comedy that feels surprisingly cathartic. When carefree Nyles (Andy Samberg) and reluctant maid of honor Sarah find themselves unable to escape a Palm Springs wedding or each other after a chance encounter, things get complicated. Produced by the legends behind the Lonely Island and studded with veteran comedians, Palm Springs is chock-full of jokes, heart and brightly saturated cinematography. This bittersweet rom-com is a perfect summer flick, so sit back and relax: it's going to be a beautiful wedding. D: Max Barbakow, US, 2020, 1h30m
"It's tough for a film to be heady and hilarious, but Palm Springs does it beautifully."
