Unpack your perceptual assumptions, explore ambiguity and feel out that third thing that exists between the self and the other.

21/22 Classes & Workshops

This experiential workshop is open to all and traverses ideas from dance, embodiment studies and cognitive science.

If possible, we hope you will join with a partner.

Faye Driscoll is a Doris Duke Award-winning performance maker who has been hailed as a "startlingly original talent" by The New York Times and "a postmillenium postmodern wild woman" by The Village Voice

She is currently the Randjelovic/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist at New York Live Arts, and is the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship, a Bessie award and the Jacob's Pillow Artist Award among many others. Her work has been presented at Wexner Center for the Arts, Walker Art Center, ICA/Boston, MCA Chicago and BAM, and internationally at Kunstenfestivaldesarts, La Biennale di Venezia, Festival d'Automne à Paris, Melbourne Festival, Belfast International Arts Festival, Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens and Centro de Arte Experimental in Buenos Aires.

Viola Stoermer is Assistant Professor in Dartmouth's Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Her research aims at understanding the cognitive and neural mechanisms of human perception, attention and memory. Particularly, she is interested in understanding the fundamental principles of selective attention, how attention shapes perception, and the capacity and structure of visual working memory. She also explores the role attention plays in connecting across sensory modalities to form multimodal objects. Her research draws on a variety of methods, including psychophysics, experimental psychology and functional neuroimaging with a particular focus on EEG (electroencephalography).
