21/22 Art On Screen
The world knows Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, the undisputed genius of the High Renaissance in Italy, widely celebrated for his expert mastery of space and proportion, simply as Raphael. On the 500th anniversary of his death, the greatest exhibition ever held of his works—over 200 masterpieces assembled with unprecedented loans from the Louvre, Uffizi, National Gallery of Art, the Prado Museum and more—took place in Rome in 2020. "Exhibition on Screen" was granted exclusive access to make this film. The exhibition and film provide a singular opportunity to see the breadth of Raphael's skill, creativity and ingenuity—how he changed the face of art and how he is often misunderstood and mythologized. Award-winning director Phil Grabsky provides a fresh look at this giant of the Renaissance and reveals why he is truly one of the most influential and naturally gifted painters in the history of art.
