SETTEMBRE di Giulia Louise Steigerwalt (2022) - Trailer Ufficiale

The quest for happiness and new beginnings, whether at 15, 40 or 60 years of age, is the thread tying together the three stories told in actress/screenwriter Giulia Louise Steigerwalt's brilliant directorial debut. This fresh and finely crafted ensemble film combines the painful irony of Italian-style humor with a rigorous American-style narrative structure for a tight and authentic comedy-drama.

The three interconnected characters Maria, Francesca and Guglielmo need to feel alive in their own ways. Maria is a reserved teen, and the boy she likes has just asked her to go all the way. She accepts but isn't sure where to start, so her school friend Sergio offers to give her a few sex lessons. Sergio's mother Francesca learns she has a health issue, but rather than tell her husband she finds comfort in the arms of her best friend Debora. Francesca's doctor Guglielmo is suffering from post-divorce apathy and the only person he likes spending time with is young sex worker Ana who, for her part, is falling in love with a sweet-natured baker. With tight dialogue and subtle performances, Settembre balances melancholy with light-heartedness for an entertaining, yet poignant film about the need for human connection.
