20/21 Hop Film

Phil Lord '97 and Chris Miller '97 (The Lego Movie) lend their signature perspective to a fun, fresh vision of the Spider-Man universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that's the first of its kind. This "dreamy, funny, self-aware, visually explosive delight" (Vanity Fair) introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore, Dope) to the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

With a clever story that is just complicated enough, Spider-Verse expertly walks the line between mischievous send-up and homage. Old-style graphic techniques commingle with digital wizardry and the result is bright, jaunty and inventive. Feeding your heart, brain and eyes in equal measure, Spider-Verse bursts with surprises—among them the seemingly endless supply of A-list voice talent, including Mahershala Ali, Chris Pine, Liev Schreiber, Zoë Kravitz, Nicolas Cage, Hailee Steinfeld and Lily Tomlin. D: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, US, 2018

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse contains a vital element that has been missing from too many recent superhero movies: fun.”
