Makoto Shinkai's animation has become synonymous with sparkling, purple-streaked skies that rain stardust as young romantic leads jump timelines and exchange bodies. In Shinkai's newest fantasia, a teenage girl named Suzume meets a mysterious young man who leads her to a magical door in a dilapidated building. Soon extra-dimensional portals all across Japan are unleashing horrible disasters. It's up to Suzume, a three-legged chair and a couple of talking cats to put things right.
