Holiday Sauce...Pandemic!
December 12, 2020

This event occurred as part of the 20/21 Hop Presents season. This is an archived view.

Christmas as calamity.

20/21 Hop Presents

2020 Ibsen Award winner and MacArthur Fellow Taylor Mac and long-time collaborators — designer Machine Dazzle, Music Director Matt Ray and producers Pomegranate Arts — celebrate the holidays in all of their dysfunction. Called "a present from the island of misfit toys" by the LA Times, Holiday Sauce…Pandemic! blends music, film, burlesque and random acts of fabulousness to reframe the songs you love and the holidays you hate. There is more to the holidays than rampant capitalism and gift-giving and in Taylor's world, creativity and imagination are their own spirituality. This holiday season will be bittersweet for so many — Taylor Mac reminds us of the collective power of our chosen families in this year of change and challenge.

You may also recognize a familiar face during Holiday Sauce...Pandemic! Part of Taylor's performance honors "local elders" who have impacted their regions and supported LGBTQIA+ folx and other marginalized communities. Taylor selected David Fairbanks Ford, founder of the Main Street Museum, a mainstay in White River Junction and a haven for radical fairies, queer punk bands, burlesque performers and more. Catch his "crowning" during the performance!

This program includes adult language and sexual content and is intended for mature audiences.

About David Fairbanks Ford

As a youngster, David Fairbanks Ford knew he wanted nothing more than to grab his mother's umbrella and handbag and pretend he could fly just like his hero Mary Poppins—which he did. He founded Vermont's Main Street Museum in 1992 as an art venue and a cabinet of curiosities.
