Viewpoints Workshop

March 28, 2022

This event occurred as part of the 21/22 Classes & Workshops season. This is an archived view.

Experience SITI Company's signature technique to develop flexibility and strength in movement for individuals and ensembles.

21/22 Classes & Workshops

The Viewpoints technique of improvisation grew out of the post-modern dance world and was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie. Overlie broke down the two dominant issues performers navigate—time and space—into six categories, the Six Viewpoints. Since then, SITI Company has continued to research and expand her original work. This technique draws from both visual art and live performance. The language of the Viewpoints allows the individual artist to practice observing the present moment with increasing sensitivity and to respond with greater range. The Viewpoints also allows a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work quickly.
