Will & Harper
Will & Harper
In a buddy movie like no other, longtime friends Will Ferrell and Harper Steele reconnect on an epic road trip after she comes out as a trans woman at age 61.
Telluride at DartmouthWhen comedian Will Ferrell and comedy writer Harper Steele met at Saturday Night Live in the 90s, they became close collaborators and the best of friends. But when Steele comes out as a trans woman at age 61, Will realizes he's missed out on a huge part of his friend's life, so the two set out on a trip to reconnect. Layers of friendship are laid bare as Harper reenters once-safe spaces as her authentic self, reintroducing the eccentric yet earnest Will to the woman he's always known. Their levity is reinforced and challenged: Harper embraces her newfound identity amid adversity, as Will is invited to stand by her.
Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) chronicles their cross-country adventure, as Steele does what she's always loved best—exploring country roads, dive bars, roadside diners, beer-drinking and people-watching off the beaten path—all for the first time as a woman. Though this trip with two very funny people can be hilarious, it's not all laughs. They visit states with anti-trans bills, where some social interactions turn awkward and even scary, but they also discover a surprising level of acceptance and love. Speaking candidly throughout about authenticity, friendship, transition and America, Ferrell and Steele deliver a buddy movie like no other. Courtesy of Netflix

Note: The theatrical release date for this film has changed since we curated our lineup with the Telluride Film Festival, so Will & Harper may be available in local theaters before our screening. Given the film's important subject and its relevance to classes, student groups and our community, we are still very excited to include this bonus seventh film in the Telluride at Dartmouth series.
