Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness Trailer | Tartuff 2020

Young Maryam accidentally kills her much-older husband and is sentenced to death. Her only recourse is to appear on a popular TV show and publicly beg forgiveness from her husband's adult daughter. If granted, the daughter is paid a reward (a blood debt). If denied, Maryam will die. Millions of television viewers are tuning in to see Maryam's fate unfold. Based on an actual and long-running Iranian reality show, this Sundance Grand Jury Winner is equal parts thriller, family drama and an incisive examination of social dynamics. D: Massoud Bakhshi, Iran, subtitled, 2019, 1h29m
